Joseph Colangelo, 79, of Lewiston, NY passed away Thursday April 19, 2012 at Mt. St. Mary Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Introdacqua, Province of Aquila, Italy, he was the son of the late Attilio and Ida (Maistro) Colangelo.

Joseph served in the United States Army from 1951 until being honorably discharged in 1953. On August 31, 1957 he married Laura (Giuliani) Colangelo in St. Joseph Church, Niagara Falls, NY. He worked for Kimberly Clark, New York State Highway Department and Nabisco, all in Niagara Falls, NY. Joseph retired as maintenance manager for Niagara County in 1996. He was a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society in Niagara Falls, NY, an avid sports fan, and he also enjoyed winemaking and gardening. His greatest love was spending time with his family, and imparting many of his life lessons on his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of fifty-four years, Joseph is survived by five children, Anthony (Flora) Colangelo of Lewiston, NY, Anna (Samuel) Paniccia of Huntington Station, NY, Attilio (Angela) Colangelo of Wheatfield, NY, Giulio Colangelo (Beth Snyder) of Niagara Falls, NY, and Ida Maria (Christopher) Pannozzo of Lewiston, NY; nine grandchildren Joseph Colangelo (Liz Sellers), Christina (Tony) Scarpace, Julia and Nicholas Colangelo, Michael, Matthew, and Christopher Paniccia, Lucas and Ava Pannozzo; one sister, Adelina (late Pasquale) DiCenso of Hamilton, Ontario; a sister-in-law, Liliana (Tony) Benedetti of Niagara Falls, NY and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Pasquale Colangelo and Vincent (late Elaine) Colangelo.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin Monday April 23rd at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th St. and Independence Ave, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S., officiating. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
