A. Robert Filocamo, 82, of Lewiston, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 3, 2013. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Patricia (Scrufari) Filocamo.
Robert attended local schools and completed his undergraduate studies at the State University of New York Teacher's College at Brockport where he achieved both his Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in June 1954, and his Master of Science Degree in Education, in August 1955. He obtained his Master of Science in Educational Administration from Niagara University in 1962. Robert was awarded a Fellowship in Science and completed a Master of Science Degree from Syracuse University in August 1965. Mr. Filocamo began his career as an educator in the Penfield School District, then Niagara Falls School District and later with the Niagara-Wheatfield School District, where he taught science and served as Chairman of the Science Department. In addition, he taught math and science at Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, NY. Mr. Filocamo served as principal of Colonial Village Elementary School in Niagara Falls, NY until his retirement in July of 1992. He served as a member and President of the Lewiston-Porter Central School District Board of Education. Robert's enthusiasm for education continued following retirement by teaching in the College of Education at Niagara University.
Robert will be remembered as a dedicated educator with a determined and inspirational attitude, for his sense of humor, compassion and generosity. He was an avid tennis player and sports enthusiast. Most importantly, he was devoted to his loving family and many friends.
In addition to his wife of fifty-nine years, Gloria (Parella) Filocamo, who he married on August 21, 1954 at St. James Church in Rochester, NY, he is survived by four children, Lorene D. (Douglas) Raham of Lewiston, NY, Robert J. (Karen) Filocamo of Henderson, NV, Elizabeth A. Filocamo of Youngstown, NY, and Joan M. Filocamo of Great Neck, NY; seven grandchildren, Anthony Filocamo, Dominic Filocamo, Catherine (Michael) Pavon, Stephen (Bailey) Raham, David M. Raham, Annemarie E. Raham, and Michael J. Raham; one great-grandson, Henry Pavon; a sister, Mary Filocamo of Niagara Falls, NY; a brother, Peter A. (Deborah) Filocamo of Amherst, NY; an aunt, Betty (late Peter) Scrufari of Niagara Falls, NY, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian (late Bruce) Myers and Janice Finaldi, and an aunt, Laura (late Patrick) Penque.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 8th and Monday, December 9th from 2–4 & 6–8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Tuesday December 10th at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Ave. Niagara Falls, NY. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. If desired memorials may be made to Niagara University, College of Education Scholarship Fund in honor of A.
