Adela Ada (Alekna) DiRamio, 94, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, died on Tuesday June 9, 2009 at North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach, FL. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada she was the daughter of the late Walter and Martha (Gasperavich) Alekna.
Adela was educated in Canada and lived in Montreal, Quebec until moving to Timmons, Ontario, and later Welland, Ontario before moving to Niagara Falls, NY in 1930. She was employed as an inspector at the Cotton Mill in Welland, Ontario, Canada. On November 30, 1940 Adela married John P. DiRamio, Sr. at St. Peter and St. Paul Church in Welland, Ontario. Mr. DiRamio predeceased her on February 4, 2000.
In her leisure, Adela enjoyed playing bingo. She will be remembered for her philosophical wisdom. Most importantly, Adela was a wonderful mother and her life centered on her family.
Mrs. DiRamio is survived by one son Ronald Gary DiRamio of Boca Raton, FL and was predeceased by one son John P. (Pamela of Marietta, GA) DiRamio, Jr. She is also survived by three grandchildren, four sisters, Mary (late Robert) Hughey of North Bay, Ontario, Angela 'Nellie' (Herb) Stanyer of Wasa, British Columbia, Katherine (late Bernard) Saxon, Rosalind (late Timothy) Valovich both of Welland, Ontario and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Julia (late James) Dimartle and Anne (late Harry) Danylynskyn, and one brother Stanley (late Stella) Alekna.
Friends may call on Sunday from 3 – 7 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where services will begin on Monday June 15th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, OSFS officiating. Interment will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY.
