Agop (Jack) Ispahanyan, 88, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Istanbul, Turkey, he was the son of the late Vartan and Baizar (Tooghigian) Ispahanyan.
Jack, as he also was known to family and friends, was the devoted husband of Margaret (Proodian) Ispahanyan, whom he married in September of 1957. He was employed at the DeVeau School in Lewiston, NY, when it was formerly a boys prep school, and later retired from the Niagara Falls Parks Department in 1985. Agop was ordained Archdeacon by the Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America in October of 1970 and served as a Deacon during Divine Liturgy at St. Hagop's Armenian Apostolic Church in Niagara Falls.
Agop was an esteemed backgammon player who won many trophies at tournaments played at the former Harmony Lounge on Niagara Street. Agop loved to cook and was always up early in the morning preparing meals. He also enjoyed working with oil paints, and his numerous landscape paintings are a testimony to his work.
In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, Agop is survived by his niece, Seta Samsonian of Long Island, NY; one nephew, Jirayr Ozboyaci of Fort Myers, FL and was the brother-in-law of Rosa Nubarian of Brea, CA, and nieces Lori E. Smith of Coto Decaza, CA and Lynn Nubarian of Studio City, CA.
There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Thursday, March 26th, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Hagop's Armenian Apostolic Church, 322 Ninth Street, Niagara Falls, NY with Archpriest Father Vazken Bekiarian officiating, assisted by Deacon Albert Amato. Interment will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. Memorial donations may be made to St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church, 322 Ninth Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14303.
