Aida G. (Pino) Nicholson, 85, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 5, 2011 at her home in Amherst, New Hampshire. A resident of Niagara Falls, New York for 65 years, she and her husband relocated to New Hampshire in 1991 to be closer to her son Marvin and his family.
"Ida" as she was informally known, was born in Niagara Falls, NY, one of eight children to Rafaela (Pellegrino) and Vincenzo Pino. She attended local schools and spent her early working years at the local Nabisco plant. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. She married John Angus Nicholson in 1950 after a brief engagement, and the couple bought a home in the city in 1960, where she raised her family. She worked for twenty years at the local Sears stores before retiring in 1980.
Ida had three passions: reading, cooking, and especially enjoying time with her family. Growing up in such a large family, her parents' home was the center of large family gatherings every Sunday and on holidays. These events created many lively discussions and countless memories for her.
It was this love of family that led the couple to relocate to New Hampshire after retirement. It was there where she and her husband embraced the role of loving grandparents.
Ida was predeceased by her husband of 59 years who passed away in 2009. She is survived by her two sons, John J. Nicholson of Phoenixville, PA and Marvin J. (Linda) Nicholson of Amherst, NH, four grandchildren, Ryan J. Nicholson of New York, NY, Kyle S. Nicholson of Boston, MA, Cara Nicholson and Kailey Nicholson both of Phoenixville, PA, four siblings; Albert (Bertha) Pino of Niagara Falls, NY, Theodora 'Dora' (Gerardo) Franciosa of Florida, , Gloria (Bert) Obleski of Pennsylvania, and James Pino of North Carolina as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by three sisters; Antoinette DeMartino, Pearl Cirrito and Josephine Fruscione.
Family, and all who were graced by Ida's friendship and love are welcome to visit on Monday April 11th from 8:30 – 9:15 a.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls, NY wit Rev. Stewart Lindsay officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. As Ida and John had wished and arranged, she will be laid to rest with the cremated remains of her beloved husband. Flowers graciously declined. Memorial offerings can be made to the Arthritis Foundation, P.O. Box 96280 Washington D.C. 20077.
