Obituary

Albert L. "Al" D'Amore, 87, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Friday May 24, 2013 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Al was born and educated in Niagara Falls, NY, and was the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Ferrone) D'Amore.

Al served in the United Sates Army during World War II from July 25 1944, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 63rd Infantry Regiment, and was honorably discharged on October 27, 1946. He served in the Southern Philippines and received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with bronze arrowhead, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal. On September 18, 1948, he married Henrietta "Hank" (Giancola) D'Amore in St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Al worked as a pipefitter at the former Hooker Chemical Company, which later became Occidental Chemical Corporation, for thirty-nine years and retired in the mid- 1980's, and while at Hooker, served as secretary of the Hooker employees union. When his sons were younger, he volunteered with Cub Scouts Pack 43. Al was also a member of the Boys Club Alumni Association in Niagara Falls, NY and was instrumental in the construction of their Arts and Crafts Center. Al enjoyed entertaining his family and friends at parties by playing the accordion and harmonica. However, he will be remembered as a skilled craftsman,with "hands of gold", who was always there for family and friends in need of assistance.

In addition to his wife of sixty-four years, Al is survived by five children, Linda M. (Sal) Palermo, Thomas A. (Charisse) D'Amore, both of Niagara Falls, NY, Mary (Jeffrey) Binga of Pendleton, NY, John D'Amore, and Joseph D'Amore, both of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren, Martine (Roger) Marino, Marina Palermo, Mara Palermo, Marli Palermo, Jeffrey Binga II, Ali Binga, and Sam D'Amore; six step-grandchildren, Jasmine, Russell, Ashley, Michila, Malachi, and Nicolas; eight great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Anthony, Eric, Ellana, Eva, Julien, Mia, and Robert; two sisters, Jennie D'Amore of Wilson, NY, and Gilda (late Tony "Bimbo") Villa of Niagara Falls, NY and many nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by a brother, Tony (late Mary) D'Amore.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Thursday May 30th at 10:00 AM at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment with military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara Foundation, Inc., 1555 Fashion Outlet Blvd, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
