Alfonso A. Paonessa, 84 of Lewiston, NY passed away on Saturday March 14, 2009 in Fairchild Manor in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph N. and Mary (Muraca) Paonessa Sr.

Al was raised and educated in Niagara Falls. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. For his entire working life, Al owned and operated Paonessa Painting in Niagara Falls, NY. In his leisure time, he enjoyed horse racing, fishing, coin collecting, solving crossword puzzles, watching college basketball and the NY Yankees. Al also took great pleasure in home improvement projects.

Mr. Paonessa was predeceased by his wife Donna (DiNapoli) Paonessa on August 17, 1981. He is survived by his five children; Maria (Robert) Swindlehurst of Niagara Falls, NY, Joseph Paonessa of South Carolina, Debbie (Frederick) Currie, Ruth Paonessa and John Paonessa all of Niagara Falls, NY, his step-daughter Kathy Vilaca of Alberta, Canada, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one brother Joseph (Patricia) Paonessa of Houston, TX, his beloved niece Linda Hale as well as several other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by two brothers; David (late Dorothy) Paonessa and Daniel Paonessa.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Jesse Scott officiating. Interment will be held in Oakwood Cemetery in Niagara Falls, NY at the convenience of the family.
