IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alfred G.
"Pete" Bissell
December 27, 2025
Alfred G. "Pete" Bissell, 83, of the Tuscarora Nation, NY, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on the Tuscarora Reservation, NY, he was the son of the late Alfred "Alfie" and Helen Ruby Bissell.
Pete was a graduate of Niagara‑Wheatfield High School. On May 11, 1962, he married Diane M. (Smith) Bissell. Mrs. Bissell predeceased him on February 18, 2020, after 57 years of marriage.
Pete was employed as a roofer prior to beginning his long and dedicated career as an Ironworker with Local #6 out of West Seneca, NY, where he worked for over 40 years. A proud member of the Tuscarora Indian Reservation and enrolled member of the Mohawk Nation, Bear Clan, Pete was active in the Tuscarora Elders group and was well known and respected throughout the community. He was deeply knowledgeable about native practices, teaching at the local school and assisting in constructing the Tuscarora Longhouse.
Pete enjoyed fishing, gardening, farming, participating in snow snake, and playing lacrosse, basketball, and fast‑pitch softball. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family—visiting his son and grandchildren every day to help around the farm and share a cup of coffee. He will be remembered most for his generosity, his steady presence, and his willingness to always lend a helping hand.
Alfred is survived by his son, Peter E. (Sherry) Bissell; his grandchildren, Simon Bissell, Morrison Bissell, and Kassandra Bissell; and his great‑grandchildren, Rhett, Morrison Jr., and Ruby. He is also survived by his siblings, Dr. Lois (late Anthony "Tony") Jircitano and James "Jim" (late Wendy) Bissell, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his daughter, Ruby Dawn Bissell, and his sister, Alice (late Jim) Cadzow.
Private funeral services and interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Lewiston, NY, will be held at the convenience of the family. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinson.org. Arrangements by M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel.
