The world lost a beloved mother.  Alice B. Laska entered into rest on May 26, 2022. Born February 22, 1929 in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Milczarski) Kowalski, Sr. She was 93 years old.

Alice graduated from LaSalle Senior High School. Then she went on to marry her sweetheart, Edward Laska in 1948. They made Niagara Falls their home, and together they shared an everlasting love for 68 years, until his passing on March 6, 2017.

She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Niagara Falls. One of her hobbies was learning to play the acoustic guitar. Many evenings she could be heard practicing her guitar behind closed doors in her bedroom.  Later in life, she enjoyed her daily drives to meet her group of friends for tea and conversation. Throughout her life, Alice showed her love for her family and friends through her baking. Every Saturday afternoon without fail, she could be found in her kitchen baking something sweet and delicious to be consumed the following Sunday with afternoon tea. This following poem by Janet Mary Zylstra entitled "Cake Baking Day" sums up this vivid memory:

Delicious smells come tiptoeing

Around the oven door.

They come creeping through the kitchen,

Up the curtains, cross the floor.

They cling to Mother's apron,

Curl up in Mother's hair,

Play tantalizing hide and seek,

Reaching almost everywhere.

Then when it comes to teatime,

And the still-warm cake is sliced,

They linger as the children sigh,

`Oh, thanks Mom! That was nice!'

Alice will be remembered with love by her children, Gary (Susan) Laska, David Laska, Linda (Francis) Gallagher; grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Laska, Erick Laska, Melissa Laska (Aaron), Peter Brennan and Maia Gallagher; great-grandchildren, Nilsson, Randall, Adam, Ewan, Olivianna, Emma and Alexandria. She is also survived by her brother, Walter Kowalski, Jr. (Patty) as well as several nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 31 from 3 – 6 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304.  Alice's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 1 at 10 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.  Everyone please assemble at church.  Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY 14092.  If desired, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice.  Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
