Andrew A. Zucco, 86 of Lewiston, NY passed away on June 6, 2010 after a brief illness. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY the son of the late Antonio and Josephine (Emmanuel) Zucco.
Andrew graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1942 and Niagara University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. He served in the United States Army in the European Theater of Operations during World War II, with the medical unit attached to the 941st Field Artillery Division. Andrew participated in five campaigns, including the Normandy Invasion, the Battle of Hurtgen and the Battle of the Bulge, as well as the liberation of Buchenwald.
Andrew worked at Bell Aircraft in the accounting department upon graduation from Niagara University. He went on to become the plant manager of Birma Products, a defense contractor in Buffalo, NY. Afterwards he became vice-president of Handi-Mart, a local chain of convenience stores, and retired from Thrifty Oil in 1996.
Andy participated in numerous community organizations, including serving as a board member and committee chair in the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston, and was named Kiwanian of the Year in 1996. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge # 584 in Lewiston. Andy served as president and a deacon of the Lutheran Church of the Escarpment for many years. He was an active member of Messiah Lutheran of Lewiston. Above all, Andy's life centered around his family.
Mr. Zucco is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Betty (Parone) Zucco, his two sons, Robert A. (late Carolyn Van Schaik) Zucco, Esq. and Richard Zucco, Esq., both of Niagara Falls, NY, his granddaughters Olivia and Lorena, his sister Patricia (late Peter) Trapasso of California, his brother Joseph (Madelein) Zucco of Lewiston, NY, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Frances Parone, Dr. Guelfo (late Marilyn) Canali and Anthony (Elsie) Parone. He was predeceased by his brother Angelo (late Violet) Zucco of Texas. Mr. Zucco is also survived by his extended family, Cheryl and Ted Sadler, Charlene and Jim McSweeny and Mike and Judy Heath and their children, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 9th at 10:30 a.m. in Messiah Lutheran Church, 915 Oneida Street Lewiston, NY with Rev. Thomas Mason officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.
