Anselmo S. Scalzo, 89, of the Town of Niagara, NY passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Northgate Health Care Facility in North Tonawanda, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Iulino) Scalzo.
Anselmo was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Fall area and attended local schools. In 1945 he married Alice M. (Vrenegor) Scalzo in Niagara Falls. Mrs. Scalzo predeceased him on June 24, 2014. During the 1950's Sam owned and operated a local trucking company. He went on to work at Oldbury Chemical Co. later known as Hooker Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls and retired as a Store Room Manager in 1983 after forty years of service. During that time, Sam also worked as a gas attendant at the former Wynes Service Station on Pine Avenue. Following his retirement, he worked for the Town of Niagara Public Works Department. Sam was an avid antique car collector and enjoyed gardening. He also had a passion for animals and especially loved horses. One of Sam's greatest pleasures was spending time with his family at his cottage on Lake Ontario.
Mr. Scalzo is survived by his six children, Joseph (Marisa) Scalzo of Ransomville, NY, Thomas (Barbara Murgia) Scalzo, Jonathan (Lisa) Scalzo, James (Lisa) Scalzo, Cynthia (Edward) Adamczyk, Jr. all of the Town of Niagara, NY and Robert (Sandra) Scalzo of Sanborn, NY; ten grandchildren, ten great- grandchildren, one sister Anne (late Joseph) Sbarbati of Lewiston, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by one brother Alfred (late Lilly) Scalzo.
Mr. Scalzo's family wishes to extend a special thank you to the dedicated staff of Northgate Manor and Hospice at Jeanne's House Unit, for their dedicated and compassionate care.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 24th from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Robert Hughson officiating.
