Anthony R. Filippelli, 93, of Niagara Falls, NY, died on Thursday September 23, 2010 at Clare Bridge Assisted Living in Wheatfield, NY. Born in Reynoldsville, PA he was the son of the late Vincenzo "James" and Concettina (Petito) Filippelli. He was predeceased by his wife Rose Marie Filippelli on June 9, 1997.

Anthony moved to Niagara Falls, NY as a child with his family and attended local schools. He graduated from Niagara Falls High School and later attended Peabody College. During World War II he served as a Navigator in the United States Army Air Corp. He later worked at the former Larken's Meat Market in Niagara Falls. In 1939, Anthony founded the American Way Market located on Main and Pierce Avenue in Niagara Falls which he operated along with his family until his retirement in 1970.

Anthony was an avid golfer and bowler which he did until the age of 89. He was one of the original members of the Niagara Frontier Country Club in Youngstown, NY, and was also active in several bowling leagues at Bowl-O-Drome Lanes in Niagara Falls, as well as other area bowling leagues. Anthony was affectionately known to everyone as "Grandpa" and loved being with children. He also enjoyed playing bridge at the John Duke Senior Center and participated in the YMCA Senior Fitness Program. Anthony will especially be remembered for his daily walks with his two dogs down Main Street in Niagara Falls.

Anthony is survived by his two daughters Karen (late Joseph) Abbo of Lewiston, NY and Concettina "Tina" Filippelli of Niagara Falls, NY; one granddaughter Stephanie Marie (Matthew Keller-Clarke) Nest, one great-granddaughter Alexis Rose Keller-Clarke, two brothers Michael (Virginia) Filippelli of Lewiston, NY and Joseph A. (late Laurie) Filippelli of San Francisco, CA and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Carmella (late Angelo) Cammarata, Letitia (late Louis) Kralick and Betty (late Teddy) Krupa.

Visitation will be held on Monday September 27th from 4 – 7 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where a funeral liturgy will be held at 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Jacek Mazur officiating. Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 or to a charity of one's choice.
