Anthony J. Mancini, 94, passed away on Monday, October 14th at Elderwood Healthcare at Crestwood in the Town of Wheatfield, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late John and Theresa (Donatelli) Mancini.
Anthony was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School in 1937. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Force with the 7th Air Force Division from March 1942 until his honorable discharge in October 1945. On August 16, 1950 he married Inez M. (Canali) Mancini at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. From 1945 until 1954, Anthony owned and operated the former Mancini Grocery and Meats on 15th Street and Ashland Avenue in Niagara Falls and prior to that he worked at Titanium Alloy Manufacturing Co. He worked as a salesman for Metropolitan Life Insurance from 1954 until 1956. Following that Anthony was employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 1985, after twenty nine years of service. Anthony was a member of Branch 3 of the U.S. Postal Union (National Association of Letter Carriers), St. Joseph Church and their Senior Citizens and Holy Name Societies. He was also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 247 all in Niagara Falls, NY. In his leisure time, Anthony enjoyed hunting, playing cards and following horseracing.
In addition to his wife of sixty-three years, Mr. Mancini is survived by four children Rev. John S. Mancini, O.S.F.S. of Saginaw, MI; Paul A. Mancini of Los Angeles, CA; Judith (Abe) Aviles of San Pedro, CA and Anthony B. (Pamela Carney) Mancini of the Town of Niagara; three grandchildren Steven Mancini, Gracelyn Aviles and Samantha Aviles, a cousin Peter (Donna) Granite, a sister-in-law Frances (Elio) Marchetti, a brother-in-law Dr. Guelfo (late Marilyn) Canali and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters Jeanette (late Aldo) Giusiana and Grace (late Fred) Cimino.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 -4 & 6 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday October 18th at 10 a.m. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. John S. Mancini, O.S.F.S, officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment with military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
