Obituary

Anthony E. Posa, 85, of the Town of Niagara, passed away on Thursday July 22, 2010 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Windber, PA he was the son of the late Joseph and Marina (Lacette) Posa. On November 6, 1947 he married Maria (Munno) Posa in Amantea, Calabria, Italy.

Anthony was raised and educated in Pennsylvania. During World War II he served with the United States Merchant Marines delivering supplies in the European and Pacific Theatres from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1948; Anthony went on to achieve the rank of officer and become a ship navigator. Following his discharge he returned to Pennsylvania where he worked in the coal mines, until moving to Utica, NY in 1951. In 1960 Anthony came to the Niagara Falls area where he has lived until the present time. For forty five years, he owned and operated the well known Mari Posa's Submarine Shop in the Town of Niagara. Anthony also owned and operated Posa Builders and built his family home as well as several other homes and businesses throughout the area. Anthony had an interest in photography and took extensive photos during his service in the Merchant Marines. Most of all, Anthony will be remembered for devoting his life to his work and family.

In addition to his wife of sixty two years, Mr. Posa is survived by eight children, Marina (Robert) Vickers, Marisa (Joseph) Scalzo, Rinaldo Posa, Michelle (Mike) Thomas, Pina (Angus) Campbell all of Niagara Falls, NY; Ramo Posa of Arizona, Rome Posa of Niagara Falls, NY; Robert Posa of Youngstown, NY and was predeceased by one son Victor Posa. He is also survived by twenty seven grandchildren, fifteen great- grandchildren, two sisters Virginia (Gene) Kessler of Pennsylvania, Ellen Horinka of New Jersey, one brother Raymond (Theresa) Posa of Pennsylvania and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by four brothers, Sam, Victor, Jim, Dominick and two sisters Doniella and infant Ellen.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NAIGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 27th at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating. Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY with Military Honors. Memorial donations may be made to the Department of Veterans Administration 3495 Bailey Avenue Buffalo, NY14201.
