Anthony J. Quarantillo, Jr. of Grand Island, NY, passed away on January 10, 2019, at Buffalo General Hospital following a short illness. He was 82. Born on July 3, 1936, in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Marjorie (Rinaldo) and the late Anthony Quarantillo.
After graduating from Juniata College in 1958 with a BS in Biology, he attended Officer Candidate School and graduated as an officer in the US Navy, serving until being honorably discharged in 1962. He began his teaching career in 1964 at LaSalle Senior High School and taught for 46 years in the Niagara Falls School District. He was a patient and supportive teacher with a passion for science, educating more than 7000 students over his career until his retirement in 2010 at age 74 from Niagara Falls High School. Throughout his career in the Niagara Falls School District, he also served in various positions of leadership and administration and worked to develop curriculum and improve the quality of the educational process. His passions included mentoring students, horse racing and other leisure activities.
In addition to his mother Marjorie, wife Helaine, and sister Nancie Catalano of Highland Heights, OH, he is survived by four children; Natalie (Philip) Mandry of Solon, OH, Kristin (Paul) Gibbon of Lockport, NY, Anthony III (Kim Miele) of Orient, OH, Maureen (Karl) Nicklas of Acworth, GA; five grandchildren; Zachary Mandry, Catherine Mandry, Jackson Nicklas, Laine Mandry, and Bennett Nicklas; and two nephews, James Catalano of Solon, OH and John Catalano of Highland Heights, OH.
There will be no prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, January 18
th
at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Cataract Church 259 4th Street Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Jacek Mazur officiating. Everyone please assemble at church. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Flowers are gratefully declined, but if desired, memorial contributions can be made to one's charity of choice.
