Antone 'Tony' C. Martello, 93, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on February 14, 2016 at Elderwood at Grand Island Nursing Center. Born in New Bedford, MA, he was the son of the late Jacinto and Conception Martello.
Tony was raised and educated in Massachusetts. He served in the United States Army during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was treated in a hospital overseas for frostbite, and honorably discharged in 1945. While visiting the Niagara Falls area, Tony met his wife Mary L. (Ricotta) Martello, and were later married on September 22, 1948. Following his marriage, Tony began working for the US Post Office as a mail carrier, and went on to become Post Master Secretary and retired after 25 years of service. In his leisure time, Tony enjoyed gardening and loved playing bingo.
In addition to his beloved wife of 67 years, he is survived by two children, Vincent (Margaret) Martello of Grand Island and Nanette (Ronald) Trapani of Greece, NY, six grandchildren, Anthony, Christopher (Nicole) and John Martello, R.J., Nikki and Louis Trapani, one great-grandchild, Sophia Martello and several nieces, nephews, cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Manuel (late Mary) Martello and sister Mary (late Jack) Alves.
Tony's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Elderwood at Grand Island for their compassionate care during his time living there.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3-7 pm at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday February 17th at 10 am at Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church 1413 Pine Ave. Niagara Falls. PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.
