Obituary

Antonietta (Rollo) Troia, 94, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, surrounded by her loving son and daughter-in-law, at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Worcester, MA, she was the daughter of the late Nicola and Lucia (Giordana) Rollo.

At the age of two, Antonietta moved to Vieste, Foggia, Italy with her family, where she would later marry Matteo Troia. Antonietta returned to the United States in July of 1938 and settled in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Troia predeceased by her on September 21, 1975. Antonietta began working as a seamstress at the former Figler's Dry Cleaning Co. in Niagara Falls and for a short time in a garment factory in the Bronx, NY. Upon her return to Niagara Falls, she began a career that span over thirty years at the former Nabisco Shredded Wheat Company until her retirement in 1981. Antonietta was an avid bowler and was participating in local bowling leagues until June of 2012. She was also an active member of the Italian Son and Daughters of America (ISDA) Volare Lodge in Niagara Falls where she was known for her dedication and work at their weekly bingo sessions. In August 2002, Antonietta was the recipient of the Cittadini Speciale (Special Citizen) Award from the Pine Avenue Business Association.

Antonietta is survived by her son Anthony M. (Martha 'Marty') Troia of Lewiston, NY; three grandsons, Anthony M. Troia, Jr., Thomas F. (Pam) Troia and Mark M. (Debbie) Troia, seven great-grandchildren, Matthew and Meghan Troia, Catelyn and Emily Halusic, Whitney (Tim) Lovato, Morgan and Clayton Troia,; four great-great-grandchildren, one sister Mary (late Joseph) Gadawski of Wheatfield, NY; one brother Croce (Palmeira) Rollo of La Spezia, Italy and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Lucia (late Patsy) Romano and Michelina (late Matteo) Martella.

Visitation will be on Friday from 3 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Saturday April 20th at 11:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 or to Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301.
