Antonio S. Restaino, Jr., 78 of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Sunday June 3, 2012 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Antonio and Pasqualina Restaino.
Antonio was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and attended local schools. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from April 20, 1951 until his honorable discharge on November 5, 1953. On June 11, 1955, he married Rose M. (Morreale) Restaino in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niagara Falls. Following his return from the service, Tony worked at Bell Aircraft. In 1958, he was hired by the City of Niagara Falls, and after several promotions, achieved the position of Supervisor of Construction and Maintenance in the Sewer & Water Department. In 1977, he became District Manager for Mainco Industrial Cleaning Services. Tony was also the co-owner of three industrial cleaning services that operated throughout New York and Pennsylvania; Power City Trucking Services, Aqua-Tech Industrial Services and Nia-Kem Services. In April 1987, Tony was appointed Deputy Director of the Niagara Falls Convention Center, and in 1988 was assigned to the Niagara Falls Waste Water Treatment Plant as Chief of Buildings & Grounds where he served until his retirement in October 1988. Following his retirement, Tony continued to stay active working as the General Manager of a local Industrial Services company, the custodian of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and School, and as a sales associate in the hardware department of Wal-Mart.
Antonio was also active in several local community organizations which included; serving on the Niagara Falls Housing Authority Board of Commissioners and the City of Niagara Falls Board of Appeals. He was also a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #247 and member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society of Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish in Niagara Falls. He was a member of the Ashland Ave. Reunion Club, a past member of Dante's Social Club, a past officer of Hyde Park Little League Zone 3, a past president of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Men's Club and a Niagara County Democratic Committeeman for over 55 years. In 1993 he was the recipient of the Niagara Falls Democratic Committee for Outstanding Service, in 1997 he received the Service Award from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Men's Club, in 2004 received the Diocese of Buffalo Lay Award of St. Joseph the Worker, in 2006 was recognized by the Western New York St. Vincent De Paul Society for Outstanding Service, and in 2010 was awarded the Cittadini Speciali, 'Special Citizen' Award by the Pine Avenue Business Association. Tony was an avid New York Yankee fan and bowler. He was known as a 'man of all trades' and enjoyed doing home projects.
In addition to his wife of fifty-six years, Mr. Restaino is survived by four children, Anthony J. (Lisa) Restaino, Robert M. (Diana) Restaino both of Niagara Falls NY, Jackie M. (Charlie) Johnson of Knoxville, TN and John J. (Robin) Restaino of Niagara Falls, NY, ten grandchildren, Anthony Restaino, Danielle Restaino, Robert M. Restaino II, Benjamin J. 'Beejay' Johnson, Pamela R. Johnson, Daniel R. Johnson, Dominique Restaino, Mystina Restaino, John Jr. and Andrew Restaino and was predeceased by one grandson Charles R. Johnson Jr. He is also survived by three sisters, Rose Giovanucci, Nellie (late Joseph) Morreale and Angeline (late Sam) Amantia all of Niagara Falls, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother-in-law of the late Carmen (Louise of Niagara Falls, NY) Morreale and was also predeceased by a nephew Patrick "Patsy" Morreale.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday June 7th at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 27th Street and Independence Ave. Niagara Falls with Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. The Knights of Columbus Council #247 will conduct a memorial service on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at the funeral chapel followed by a memorial service which will be conducted by the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
