Arthur E. 'Art' Hill 89 of Hamburg, NY, formerly of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Tuesday June 29, 2010 in Elderwood Health Care Facility at Lakewood in Hamburg, NY. Born in Wales, United Kingdom, he was the son of the late Ernest and Cecilia (Ferris) Hill.
Art immigrated to the United States at the age of two with his family and attended local schools including Niagara Falls High School. He served in the United States Navy as a Machinist 1st Class during World War II, and was honorably discharged on October 1, 1945. On November 25, 1944, Art married Mary A. (Alaimo) Hill in Niagara Falls, NY. From 1945 until his retirement in 1985, Art worked as a chemical operator for Olin Mathieson Corporation in Niagara Falls.
Art was a member of Lewiston #1 Volunteer Fire Company and member of the Elks Club and Moose Lodge. He was an outstanding athlete and true sportsman. In his younger years he excelled as a pitcher in baseball and later on softball well into his 50's. Art was a member several local teams throughout the area including Olin Mathieson in the Industrial League, the Frog Pond and Lewiston #1 Volunteer Fire Co. Art was also an avid golfer and bowler.
In addition to his wife of sixty five years, Arthur is survived by his children, Beverly (Gene) Renzoni of Williamsville, NY, Sharon Baker of Grand Island, NY and Richard (Sharon) Hill of San Diego, CA, his grandchildren, Michael Renzoni, Marc (Jenifer) Renzoni, Shannon (Ryan) Klar, Nicole Baker, Brett (Kara) Baker, Elizabeth (David) Antonelli, Tina Hill, April Hill, Sara Hill, Kim Murray and Stefanie Murray, sixteen great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by one brother Stanley Hill and two infant twin sisters.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. James Massie officiating. Private entombment will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery Lewiston, NY. Flowers are graciously declined.
