Arthur Arzroon Avdoian, 84, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Our Lady of Peace in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Sahag and Gulizar (Der Ohanessian) Avdoian.
A lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, Art attended local schools and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Buffalo in 1957. He served in the United States Air Force Reserve as an Airman Third Class from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1954. In 1964 Art married his beloved wife, Mary (Amirian) Avdoian. He was employed as a cost analyst at Bell Aerospace from 1967 until 1991. He and his brothers owned and operated Avdoian Bros. Grocery, a fixture on Pine Avenue for over 30 years. Art also worked as an accountant for the NY Central Railroad and was involved with the construction of the Niagara Power Project.
An enthusiast of fine food, spirits and good company, Art was a charter life member of the Alps Gourmande Club. He was proud to be part of the Armenian-American Veterans Association of Niagara Falls. He belonged to the National Association of Accountants, reflective of his lifelong passion for finance (and his love/hate relationship with tax season). Art was an avid, frustrated fan of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. He enjoyed the occasional game of chance, loved reading and was passionate about American history, particularly the Civil War.
In addition to his wife, Art is survived by three children, Christopher, Susan, and David and predeceased by his dear son, Gregg. Art's two brothers John (late Lucille) and Arsen (Alice) preceded him in death as well. He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Avdoian and Rosalind (late Michael) Mashoian. Other survivors include several nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
