Ashik Poovanna, 23, passed away on July 10, 2021 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY.  Born in Mysore, India, he was the son of Thimmaiah Nandanda Aiyappa and Vileena Chappanda Kushalappa.

Ashik was raised in India and graduated from PES University in Bangalore, India in 2019 with a Bachelor's in Technology in Computer Science and Engineering.  He worked for VISIO.IO and InMobi as an intern, both in Bangalore during his time there.  He was also a Research Scholar for University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2018.

In 2019, he began as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University at Buffalo, where he earned his Master's of Science in 2021 in Computer Science and Engineering.  He was currently employed as a Software Development Engineer with Amazon, based out of New York City.

In his spare time, Ashik enjoyed photography, tennis, basketball, and swimming and spending time with his family and friends..  He was an avid reader, was interested in anime, loved sketching and writing poems.  He had a love for Philosophy.  His dream was to pursue a PhD and to write a novel and become a full time novelist.

In addition to his parents, Ashik is survived by his brother, Arjun Chengappa, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
