Attilio Folino, 88 of Wheatfield, NY passed away on June 23, 2018 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born October 28, 1929 in Nicastro, LaForesta Italy, he was the son of the late Antonio and Giovanna (Nicolazzo) Folino.
Attilio was raised and educated in Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1948. On May 21, 1960 he married Carmeline (Santoro) Folino in St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls. Attilio began his career working for Certo Brothers Distributing and afterwards Union Carbide. He was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1954. Attilio went on to have a career as a barber for sixty years owning and operating Attilio's Barber Styling in Amherst, NY. Attilio's passion in life was his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a nurturing and gentle man with an infectious smile and loved touching people's lives through his work. He loved cooking for family gatherings as well as hunting and fishing with his son, grandsons,compares and friends. He was especially proud of his upbringing and Italian heritage, and found great pleasure in gardening, making wine, sopressata and canning. Attilio also enjoyed dancing, playing bocce and spending time at the Cristoforo Colombo Society.
In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years, Attilio is survived by his two children, Anthony 'Tony' Folino and Joanna Piccirillo, four grandchildren, Joseph (Damaris) Piccirillo, Nicholas (Victoria) Piccirillo, Anthony Folino, II and Michael (Kaileen) Folino, three great-grandchildren, Luciano, David and Jason, his sister Carmeline Folino, his father-in-law Joseph Santoro and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased bysix brothers, Frank, Vincent Joseph, Michael, Dominic and Ortenzio Folino and one sister Tomasina Folino.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 Military Rd. Niagara Falls, NY where funeral services will begin on Thursday June 28th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph's Church 1413 Pine Ave. Niagara Falls, NY. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
