Obituary

Benedict J. Gandolfi, 80 of Niagara Falls, NY entered into eternal rest on Saturday April 14, 2012 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY after a lengthy illness. Born in Stump Creek, PA and later raised in Plumville, PA he was the son of the late Giovanni 'John' and Zoraida (Santini) Gandolfi.

Benny was educated in Pennsylvania, and moved to the Niagara Falls area as a teenager. On January 28, 1956, he married Mary L. (Sarro) Gandolfi in St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Benny first worked as a machine operator at the International Paper Mill in Niagara Falls for seventeen years until its closing. He then worked at the former Bell Aerospace in Wheatfield, NY, and later went on to work as a machine operator and foreman for the Linde Division of Union Carbide Corporation also in Niagara Falls, which later became known as L-TEC and then ESAB Welding, until his retirement in 1994 after twenty six years of service.

An outdoor enthusiast, Benny enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping locally and in the Southern Tier. He took great pleasure in listening to country western music, cooking and baking, and was also highly skilled in all facets of trades and mechanics. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion Post #523 in Rural Valley, PA. Above all, Benny centered his life among his family and loved spending time with them.

In addition to his wife of fifty six years, Mr. Gandolfi is survived by his three children, Linda Lester, Michael J. Gandolfi and Vincent J. 'Jimmy' Gandolfi all of Niagara Falls, NY, and was predeceased by a son Vincent and three infant sons, Benedict, John and another infant son. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Anita L. (Mariani) (Jonathan) Joyce, DDS, Kaitlynn N. Lester and Emma C. Gandolfi, two sisters, Josephine (late Anthony) Duganier of Houston, TX, and Savina (Louis) Bleggi of Boardman, OH, a sister-in-law, Rita (late Joseph) Sarro of Niagara Falls, NY, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins in Niagara Falls, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

He was also predeceased by two sisters and one brother, Caroline Gandolfi, Eugene 'Muss' (late Marjorie) Gandolfi both of Pennsylvania and Christine (Leonard of Lake Worth, FL) Carmella, two sisters-in-law Raffaella Sarro and Lucy (late Peter) Congi (late William) Domorat, and two other brothers-in-law, Philip (late Lillian) Sarro and US Army Private Vincent Sarro.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday April 18th at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 27th Street and Independence Ave. Niagara Falls, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY.
