Obituary

Bernard 'Babe' M. Mayflower, 85, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on November 14, 2021 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Bernard Mayflower and Mary (Leo) Mayflower Reid.

Bernie was raised in Niagara Falls and attended local schools. On February 15, 1958, he married Ida B. (Coppola) Mayflower in Lockport, NY. Mrs. Mayflower predeceased him on November 11, 2015. Bernie was employed for over 25 years with the Niagara County Sheriff's Department, as a Deputy, and later as a Captain and the Head of the Jail. He was a member of the ISDA Cataract Lodge and was a founding member of the Tyro Football League (which later became Cataract Little Loop Football), where he also coached for many years. In 2005, he was inducted in the Niagara Falls Old Timer's Sports Hall of Fame. Bernie enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving in his younger years, and spending time at his cabin in the Southern Tier.

Bernie is survived by his children, Mary Ellen (Thomas) Bradley, Michael (Wendy) Mayflower and Carol (Joseph) Simpson; his grandchildren, Thomas Bradley, Joseph (Lauren) Bradley, Sarah Bradley, and James Mayflower; his great grandchildren Dominic and Amelia Bradley; his siblings, Patricia (Donald) Paolini, Marcia (late Sam) Marino, and Charlotte 'Chickie' Quenzel, his companion, Betty Larratta, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife of 63 years, he was predeceased by his brother, Charles 'Che Che' (Rebecca) Mayflower.

The family will be present on Friday, November 19 at 9 AM at St. Raphael's Church, 3840 Macklem Ave, Niagara Falls, NY 14305, where Bernie's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM, with interment in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY to follow. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
