Bernard P. Olivieri, 92, of Grand Island, NY passed away Wednesday March 4, 2015 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Hamilton, Ontario he was the son of the late Paul Olivieri and the late Elizabeth (Tamborine) Manenty.
Bernie proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II and was honored with several medals for his dedicated service. Following his service in the Navy, Bernie began a career working as a lineman supervisor with Niagara Junction Railway and relocated to the United States. He married Mary Olivieri and settled in Grand Island, NY where he built his own home and together raised their three sons. During his career with the railroad he served as a lobbyist for railroad employees to the New York State Senate and saw the passage of two bills signed into law by Governor Hugh Carey. He later pursued a career as chief electrical inspector for Delew & Cather, Inc. and worked on the Buffalo Rapid Transit System construction project. Following his retirement, Bernie created Rainbow Tours of Niagara, Inc. and enjoyed guiding tours for sightseers in Niagara Falls, NY and Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Bernie is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Mary; three sons Paul Olivieri of California, Peter Olivieri and Daniel Olivieri, both of Grand Island, NY, and many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Lorraine (Mike) Marcogliesi and brother Paul (Kala of LasVegas) Olivieri.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 3 - 7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 Military Rd. Niagara Falls, NY. Visitation will also be held on Friday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 P.M. at the Cresmount Funeral Home, UPPER JAMES Chapel, 1020 Upper James Street, Hamilton ,Ontario. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Charles Church, 129 Hughson Street South, Hamilton, Ontario.
