Bessie E. Johnson-Dickerson, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 20th, 2016 at her daughter's residence while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on September 7, 1927 to the late John J. Johnson and Emma (Herbert) Johnson, in Andalusia, Covington County, Alabama. She was the seventh born of ten children.
On September 4, 1945, Bessie married Willie Dickerson, together they moved to Niagara Falls, NY in 1950, where they made a loving home for their family. Bessie was a deaconess for over 50 years and one of the founding members of the Church of the Pure & Heart in Niagara Falls. She was employed at Niagara University in the food service department for over 42 years. She was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and church member up until her recent illness.
She leaves to mourn: two daughters Elizabeth Weeden and Emma (Wilbur) Hunt; one son General Dickerson of Enterprise, Alabama; one sister Elizabeth Culver of Clovis, New Mexico, one brother Weldon Johnson of Fort Pierce, Florida; host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, very special grandchildren Shalonda Hunt-Carter, Brandon Taylor Hunt, Brandi Hunt, Lakia Carter, Andrea Hunt, Zaeshaun Hunt and Ameerah Brown, as well as her dear niece Lille M. Miller.
Bessie was predeceased by her oldest son Willie Dickerson, Jr., sisters Mary Lou Tyler, Odie Roberts, Gladys Smith, Louise Watkins, Mary Sue Weeden; brothers, Nathaniel Johnson and Willie Johnson and grandsons Robert DeWayne Weeden and Warren L. Hunt.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 27th from 11 – 12 Noon at Mount Erie Missionary Baptist Church, 1152 Fairfield Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14305, where funeral services will be celebrated at 12 Noon. Interment in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Repass meal to follow services at American Legion Post 381, 923 Niagara Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY.
