Obituary

Betty L. (Myers) Atkinson, 92, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 17, 2020, following a courageous four-year battle with Ovarian Cancer.  Born in Ransomville, NY she was the daughter of the late William and Emma (Ray) Myers.

Betty graduated from Wilson High School and on September 11, 1946 she married Theodore "Teddy" Atkinson in Virginia and then moved to Niagara Falls, NY where she lived until the present time.  Teddy predeceased her on May 3, 2012 following sixty-seven years of marriage.  Betty was employed as a store keeper in the phone center of the New York Telephone Co., currently known as Verizon, for thirty years until retiring in 1985 and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America as well.   Following her retirement, she enjoyed getting together for monthly luncheons with other telephone company retirees.  She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and in her leisure time Betty enjoyed golfing and playing euchre whenever possible.  She was also an avid fan of the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills, and was very knowledgeable with player names and stats.

Betty had a flair for fashion and always kept up with the latest style both in clothing and footwear and also loved decorating her home for each holiday, especially Christmas.  But most of all Betty will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who centered her life around her family and looked forward to her daily visits from her sons and making sure they had something to eat before leaving.

Betty is survived by three sons Greg (Dorothy) Atkinson, Gary Atkinson both of Niagara Falls, NY and Gavin (Terry) Atkinson of The Woodlands, TX; six grandchildren Megan (David Butler) Weis, Erin (Timothy) Gelhar, Gavin (Megan) Atkinson, Rhonda (Shawn) Vekich, Randall (Rushia) Coughenour and Renee (Jason) McKenzie; thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two sisters Shirley (Bruno) Figura, Ruth (late James) Cheetham and two brothers Donald Myers and Howard Myers.

Due to recent circumstances, funeral services and interment in North Ridge Cemetery will be held privately for Betty's family. Memorial offerings may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, PO Box 631, Buffalo NY 14240 or to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094. Arrangements by M.J.
