Betty M. (Mackenzie) Travis, 79, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Sunday June 20, 2010 after a long illness at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Shields) Mackenzie.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. She attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1948. On October 1, 1949 she married Joseph J. Travis at Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Betty worked for a short time as an operator for the former Bell Telephone Company in Niagara Falls, NY before staying at home to raise her family and take care of her grandchildren. Following her husband's retirement, they enjoyed many years of traveling the country together. Betty was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, and will be sadly missed by all who love her.

In addition to beloved husband of nearly sixty one years, Betty is also survived by her three children, JoAnne Gazy of Niagara Falls, NY; Robert J. (Judith Petrozzi) Travis of Lewiston, NY and Michelle Marielle of Niagara Falls, NY; six special grandchildren, Robert (Erin) Gazy, Emily (Jason) Gazy, Robert J. (Gail) Travis, II, Sara Travis, Daniel Marielle and Megan Marielle, one brother James Mackenzie of Niagara Falls, NY and several nieces and nephews including, Gwen Williams, James (Susan) Williams, Richard Williams and William (Lisa) Williams, as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Betty was the sister-in-law of, Nancy (late Anthony) Travis of Niagara Falls, NY; John (late Theresa) Iodice of Las Vegas, NV and Dominic Trapasso of California. She was also predeceased by one sister M. Isabel (late Richard) Williams, one brother Robert L. Mackenzie and one nephew David (Cathy of Niagara Falls, NY) Williams.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1 – 4 and 6 – 9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where services will begin on Thursday June 24th at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vincent DePaul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 North Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Robert Hughson officiating. Entombment will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
