Obituary

Bruno Mercurio, 79, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2020 at his residence in Wheatfield, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Anthony and Ida (Berardi) Mercurio; and beloved husband of Mary Ann (Scalzo) Mercurio, who he married on November 6, 1965 at St. Joseph Church.

Bruno was a 1959 graduate of Niagara Falls High School, and later received his Bachelor's Degree in Science from Empire State College in 1974. Bruno enlisted in the United States Army in 1959 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1962.

Bruno began working at M & T Bank and served as Assistant Vice President, as well as a Regional Manager for 26 years. He then worked with the Gallie Administration for one term and devoted his time to the Economic Development program. Bruno later retired from HSBC Bank in 2000 after serving as a commercial lender for several years.

Mr. Mercurio was a longtime member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society, where he was a former Trustee. He also was affiliated with the Kiwanis Club, the Mt. St. Mary's Hospital Board of Associates, the Love Canal Revitalization Board, and several other local civic organizations throughout his life.

Bruno enjoyed playing Bocce in the Wednesday night league at Hyde Park, and was also an avid football fan. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his loving family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Mercurio is survived by his children, Christopher (Vanessa) Mercurio, David (Ann Marie) Mercurio; five grandchildren, Carmella, Lenora and Carmen Mercurio, and Emma and Matthew Mercurio; his sister, Rosalie (late Robert) Good, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Anna Marie (late Alex) Rihaly and his infant brother, Bruno Mercurio.

Visitation will be on Monday, June 15 th from 3 – 6 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Due to current circumstances, building capacity will be monitored to adhere with current regulations.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY, with Military Honors. Memorial offerings may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Shriner's Hospital or to a charity of one's choice. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
