Obituary

Devoted Husband and Father
Caesar A. Capone, 88, of Grand Island, NY passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital in Tonawanda, NY. Born in Oakfield, NY he was the son of the late Ernesto and Giovanina (Merlo) Capone.

Caesar came to the Niagara Falls area with his family in 1935 to live with his aunt and uncle, Enrico and Elena Capannolo who helped raise him. He graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School in Niagara Falls and later attended the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Science (now ECCC) and was a member of the second graduating class. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a member of the 82nd and 11th Airborn Division. Caesar was especially proud of being a part of Honor Flight Network for Veterans and traveling to the War Memorial in Washington D.C. On September 2, 1950 he married Ines A. (Eliseo) Capone at Sacred Heart Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Together they resided in Niagara Falls until moving to their current home in Grand Island, NY in 1988. As a young boy Caesar was employed at the Unique Ice Cream Parlor and the Rail Road. In 1952 he became an electrician and worked through the IBEW Local #237 in Niagara Falls until his retirement in 1985. He worked at various sites throughout the area during his career including the Niagara Power Project and the construction of the New York City World Trade Center Twin Towers.

Caesar was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion both in Grand Island, and was a faithful member of St. Stephen's Church in Grand Island, where he also served as a member of their Holy Name Society. Caesar was an avid hunter and fisherman for over fifty five years. He also enjoyed gardening, reading and watching the History and Discovery Channel.

In addition to his wife of sixty four years, Caesar is survived by two daughters, Cathy A. (Walter) Harris of Philadelphia, PA and Linda M. (Richard) Engelbrecht of Conesus Lake, NY; one son Gary C. Capone of Grand Island, NY; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Katelyn) Engelbrecht, Scott (Meaghan) Engelbrecht, Ashley (Michael) Murray, Bradley Harris and Jonathon Harris; one brother Oswaldo (Evelyn) Capone of Westmont, NJ, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Olga Eliseo of Grand Island, NY and Richard (Portia) Eliseo of Cambria, NY, cousins, Florence (late Victor) Frosolone and Ann (late Camille) Briglio, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by five brothers, Hugo Capone, Nello (Mary of Williamsville, NY) Capone, Dominic Capone, Ralph (Dorothy of Lockport, NY) Capone and Sam (Josephine of Newfane, NY) Capone.

Visitation will be on Friday from 1 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday February 7th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen's R.C. Church, 2100 Baseline Road, Grand Island, NY with Fr. Paul Nogaro officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY with Military Honors.
