Obituary

Carl J. Zambotti, 84, formerly of Wheatfield, NY died on Tuesday March 13, 2012 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Lino and Mary (Yannes) Zambotti. On July 16, 1983 he married Shirley (Carr Parry) Zambotti at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY.

Carl attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army with the Medical Detachment 19th Infantry Regiment 24th Division from January 22, 1946 until his honorable discharge on April 16, 1947 and received the Army of Occupation Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. Following his discharge he worked at the former Nabisco Shredded Wheat Co. in Niagara Falls, NY. Carl then served as a firefighter for the City of Niagara Falls, NY. Carl was promoted to Captain in 1980 and throughout his thirty-one year career he was a highly decorated recipient of several commendations. These included the Levy Award, the American Red Cross Award, the New York State Firefighter of the Year and the Frank Kridel Gold Medal Award. From 1962 until 1980 Carl served as Treasurer of the NFFDMAA. Following his retirement he lived in Florida, Louisiana and Texas for twenty three years before returning to the Niagara Falls area. He was the brother of N.F.F.D. Battalion Chief Simon Zambotti and uncle of N.F.F.D. Captain Michael Zambotti. Carl was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 247 in Niagara Falls, NY. Carl was an avid golfer and achieved a hole-in-one.

In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by two sons Kirk (Dori) Parry of North Tonawanda, NY and Scott (Anabelle) Parry of Atlanta, GA. He was predeceased by one son Robert Parry. He is also survived by three grandchildren Christine, Nicholas and Andrea Parry; one sister Eda (Neil) Scrinzi of Youngstown,NY; two brothers Simon Zambotti and Stephen (Rose) Zambotti both of Niagara Falls, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by one brother Albert (R. Marie of Niagara Falls, NY) Zambotti.

Visitation will be on Friday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 17th at 12 noon in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
