Carmella J. (Piunno) Svida, 75, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Wednesday September 15, 2010 at her residence. Born in Welland, Ontario, Canada she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Abbadanzio (Fazio) Piunno.

Carmella was raised and educated in Welland. In 1954 she married Jan Svida, and in 1955 they came to Niagara Falls, NY where she lived until the present time. Mr. Svida predeceased her in 1988. While living in Canada, Carmella was employed at Woolworth's Department Store in Welland. She later worked at Granto's Restaurant in Niagara Falls, and retired from Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Following her retirement she worked part time at Tops Supermarket on Portage Road. Carmella was a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society in Niagara Falls and participated in the N.F. Memorial Medical Center bowling league. She was a fabulous cook and was especially known for her baking. Carmella baked cookies for troops of the 107th and 914th Airlift Wing and Army Medical Unit, and was presented an award by the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station for her efforts. Above all, Carmella enjoyed life to the fullest, and especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Svida is survived by eight children, Michael Svida of New York, John W. Svida of Niagara Falls, NY, Edward Svida of West Palm Beach, FL; Julie A. Svida of Lewiston, NY, Donna M. Anderson of St. Catherines, Ontario; Steven (Tracy) Svida of Niagara Falls, NY, Mary (Joe) Graci of Stoney Creek, Ontario and David Svida of Niagara Falls, NY; seven grandchildren, CJ Shakarjian, David Shakarjian and Kianna Shakarjian, Cassandra Anderson, Nevada Graci , Marina Graci and Brian Graci, three step-grandchildren, Michael Sansalone, SPC Nicholas Sansalone, USA and JoMarie Sansalone, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and her beloved dog Elvis and bird Sarah. She was also predeceased by two sisters and two brothers Mary Raso, Molly Christopher, Mike Piunno and Dominic Piunno.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where services will begin on Monday September 20th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Vincent DePaul Parish at St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment will be held in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Memorial Medical Center, 621 Tenth Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14302.
