Obituary

Carmen T. Morreale, Sr. passed away Saturday, December 24, 2011, at Mt. St. Mary's hospital in Lewiston, NY surrounded by his loving family. Carmen was born on February 23, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY. He was the devoted and loving son of the late Dominick and Gaetana "Tillie" (Pagano) Morreale. Carmen married Louise Ann Nanea on June 20, 1964, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niagara Falls, NY.

He attended St. Joseph's grade school, St. Mary's High School and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1949. Carm served with the 45th Division of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then served as a Niagara Falls firefighter from 1955 to 1980, when he became the Deputy Fire Chief, and in 1987 he became the Fire Chief until his retirement in December of 1991.

Carm was a true public servant and participated on many boards including the Niagara Falls Board of Education for seven years from 1973-1980, and was President for three of those years. He was a past member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and served as President of the Niagara Falls Firefighters Union. Carmen was also a member of the Niacap Board of Directors for 20 years and was past president for two years. He was also a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #247.

Carm worked a second job with Composituer Printing in Lewiston, NY. He was a faithful parishioner of Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph's Church. His hobbies included bowling, golf, cooking, gardening, and spending time with his grandsons, nieces and nephews. He was referred to as the "go to guy" for his family and friends because of his dependability.

Carmen is survived by his loving wife Louise and his proud children: Carmen Morreale, Jr. of Wheatfield, NY, Michael Morreale of Lewiston, NY, and Dr. Elena Morreale of Tampa, FL; his grandsons, Ryan and Shane of Lewiston, NY and Kyle and Matthew of Tampa, FL; former daughter-in-law Tina Morreale; and his sister Rose (Antonio) Restaino of Niagara Falls, NY; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Geraldine (Marc) Carpenter of the Town of Niagara. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Carmen was predeceased by his parents, his brother Joseph (Nellie of the Town of Niagara); nephew Patsy Morreale; and his in-laws Angelo and Mary Nanea.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert L. Bull, Jr. and his staff, Dr.Mohammed Ahmed and his staff, the Pac U, the 3rd, 5th, and 6th floors of St. Mary's Hospital, Father Duane Klizek, Fr. Stewart Lindsay, and the religious staff for their prayers, kindness, and compassion shown to the family during this difficult time.

Visitation will be from 2 – 5 and 7 – 9 PM on Wednesday December 28th at the M.J COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304 where funeral services will be held on Thursday December 29th at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street at Independence Ave. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY, with full Military honors. The Knights of Columbus Council #247 will conduct a memorial service on Wednesday at 4:30 PM at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph's Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301, the Niagara Falls Firefighter's Toy Fund or a charity of one's choice.
