Obituary

Carmen A. Vaccarella, 92, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Frank and Concetta (Falcione) Vaccarella.


Carmen was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army from January 13, 1943 until his honorable discharge on December 21, 1945. He was involved in the battles and campaigns in Luzon and Northern Solomons and was the recipient of a Philippines Liberation Ribbon, American Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, an Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.


Carmen was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Niagara Falls and retired after more than thirty years of service. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Niagara Frontier Country Club in Youngstown. He was also a member of the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club and the LaSalle Sportsman Club. Carmen was a passionate sports fan, especially of the New York Yankees. He was also an excellent bowler who was inducted into the Niagara Falls Bowling Hall of Fame.

Mr. Vaccarella was predeceased by his first wife Betty (McCarthy) Vaccarella and later by his second wife Georgina (Barretta) Vaccarella. He is survived by three children Connie (late Robert) Neubauer of Niagara Falls, NY; Sandra (John) Tory of Lewiston, NY and Carmen (Cheryl Aigner) Vaccarella of Niagara Falls, NY; four grandchildren, two brothers Frank Vaccarella of Virginia and James Vaccarella of the Town of Niagara and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother Pete Vaccarella and three sisters Mary (Vaccarella) Pallaci, Lucy (Vaccarella) Angelosanti and Florence (Vaccarella) Falcione-Ciccioni.


Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31st from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 1st at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY with Military Honors.
