Carol A. (Quarcini) Hedlund, 73, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Thursday May 26, 2011 at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Michael and Caroline (Calantina) Quarcini.
Carol was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY and attended local schools. On April 7, 1956 she married Roger H. Hedlund at Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Hedlund predeceased her on June 11, 2003. Carol was employed at several local businesses including Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Harvey and Carrie's Restaurant and the law office of Benjamin Gold. She later worked as a loan officer at SKW and at the Goodyear Credit Union. Carol and her husband also owned and operated two cabs for the LaSalle Cab Co. When her children were young she was very active at St. Joseph Elementary School and volunteered with the St. Dominic's Middle School and Niagara Catholic High School's lunch program and Bingo. She was also a strong supporter of Niagara Catholic High School, including its annual holiday food drive, and many other events at the school. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Church and Our Lady of Angels at Niagara University. In her leisure time, Carol enjoyed tending to her rose garden, reading and baking. But above all she was a loving and devoted mother and Nana to her family.
Carol is survived by four children Roger H. Hedlund, Jr., Kelley A. Hedlund, Joseph W. Hedlund all of Niagara Falls, NY and Caroline "Carrie" A. (Brian) McGeough of Port St. Lucie, FL; five grandchildren E.J. Wilson, Mark Wilson, Juliana Sledziewski, Megan A. McGeough and Matthew P. McGeough, one great granddaughter Abigail Wilson, one sister Rosemarie (late William) Kupfer of Niagara Falls, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters Joseph (late Dorothy) Quarcini, Josephine (late Paul) Romanoff, Larry Quarcini, Theresa Quarcini, Pauline Murphy, Sam (Joyce of Wheatfield, NY) Quarcini and Michael A. "Butch" (Julia of Niagara Falls, NY) Quarcini.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 – 8 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Wednesday June 1st at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
