Obituary

Carolyn Spacone of Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, her 97th birthday. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, where she lived until most recently, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia (Scrivano) DiCenzo and the wife of the late Nunzio Spacone.

Carolyn attended local schools, graduated from Niagara Falls High School and went to work in her father's Pine Ave. furniture store as a bookkeeper. She married the handsome US Army veteran returning home, Nunzio Spacone, on August 18, 1951 in Mt. Carmel Church. He had pursued her by shopping for a radio in her dad's store. The couple welcomed two children into their family. Together, they raised their family in their home in the LaSalle section of Niagara Falls, where they spent 71 years together until Nunzio’s passing in 2022.

Carolyn was active with Prince of Peace Church and School, was President of the Mother's Club and organized and worked in the School Library. She ran and worked at various fundraisers for the school including an annual spaghetti dinner, pancake breakfast, fashion show and bingo. For years, she worked teaching religion classes at Sunday School and sang as a soprano in the church choir. She played bocce and played in several tournaments where she was a top finisher.

Carolyn had an artistic bent, did clay work and became very competent in oil painting. Several of her paintings are on permanent display at Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Carolyn also worked in sales at Jenss Retail at the old Summit Park Mall for over a decade. Carolyn was known as an excellent cook and baker and served numerous Italian dinners for family on Sundays and holidays. She was active in the lives of her grandchildren, frequently babysitting.

Carolyn is survived by her two children, Celia Spacone, Ph.D. (David M. Pratt Ph.D.) and David L. (Mary) Spacone; her grandchildren, Justin S. (Katrina) Pratt, Andrea S. Pratt Ph.D. (Ryan Kanick), Miranda Spacone, Christopher (Daniella) Spacone, and Alex Spacone; and a great-grandchild, Theodore Nunzio Kanick, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Dolores Jean Volpe.

Private entombment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY, will be held at the convenience of the family.  A Memorial Mass for Carolyn will be held at a future date to be announced.  If desired, memorial offerings may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.com/donate.  Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
