Obituary

Catherine (Paonessa) DeMartino, 95, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on April 18, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas where she lived with her son. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Grace Paonessa

Catherine was a 1935 graduate of the first graduating class of Niagara Falls High School. She attended business school and for much of her professional life was a civil service employee of the City of Niagara Falls. She led a simple life but was very alert, intelligent, and enjoyed doing the daily New York Times crossword puzzle and reading.

God was kind to her and took her quickly without pain and suffering. Catherine will be laid to rest beside her loving husband in accordance with their final wishes.

Catherine was predeceased by her husband Lawrence DeMartino on December 12, 2002. They were married on July 3, 1937 in St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls, NY, and received the apostolic blessings from the Most Holy Father on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. Survivors include her son, Lawrence, DeMartino, Jr. of San Antonio, TX, her daughter Kathleen (James) Manwaring of Syracuse, NY, granddaughter Catherine of Austin, TX, sister Rose Berger of Roseville, MI and several generations of nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a sister Dorothy Paonessa Smith.

There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday April 27th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Ave. Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. If desired memorial offerings may be made to Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, New York 14301.
