Obituary

Catherine (Colosi) DiMino went peacefully to the Lord at home on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 13, 1926 in Washington, Pennsylvania.  She was predeceased by her parents Guiseppe and Rosa (Nastasi) Colosi.  She came to Niagara Falls with her father in 1943 and started working at Nabisco "Shredded Wheat". While at Shredded Wheat she was in charge of arranging parties for young men going into Military Service and Retirement Parties.  She knew how to throw the best parties!  She also held part time jobs with Unique Chocolate Shoppe and the original Great Bear Market, where she met her future husband.

Amongst her many contributions to the community, she was former president of LaSertoma Club, former President of the Century Club Women Organization, St. Teresa's Church Parish Council, Board of Director of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, St. Francis Guild (Pink Elephant original committee and many after), Western New York Youth Foundation and the Niagara Falls area Chairman for the Girls Town of Italy Fashion Show.  Catherine was a charter member of Power City Lodge #158 and was a charter member of the Volare Lodge #269 with her husband Alphonso.  She and Alphonso were founders of the Castellani Art Museum and were both very active in their children's schools, Bishop Duffy, Madonna High School, Niagara Catholic and Stella Niagara Education Park.

Her charitable contributions to this community were vast and this year she was to be recognized this year by the Mount Saint Mary's Hospital Foundation and the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club as a member of their Hall of Fame.

Catherine was quite a sports enthusiast and lover of all sports.  Her favorite baseball team was the Boston Red Sox and her idol has always been Ted Williams.  She loved the game of golf, boasting 3 hole-in ones.  She was a club member at Niagara Frontier Country Club, Niagara Falls Country Club and Wynmoor Country Club.  Catherine was adventurous, too.  She and Al loved to travel.  They visited many European countries, experienced cruising to the Caribbean and Alaska and enjoyed two very special vacations to Disney World with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Catherine loved to make people laugh and to perform for others. She would often put on skits as a performer for the Italian American Club and at Niagara Frontier Country Club. However she is most remembered for telling her funny stories of her growing up and how she met the love of her life for family and friends. She had such an infectious laugh!

Catherine was a member of St. Raphael Parish in Niagara Falls and was instrumental in the planting of all the beautiful trees, and starting a 50/50 draw every Sunday.

Catherine married Alphonso I. DiMino on October 8, 1955, at Saint Joseph Church, Niagara Falls, New York. Her loving husband died on November 16, 2006. She was the beloved mother of three children:   Anthony (Barbara) DiMino, MaryRose Casero and Anne Marie (Steven) Hepfer.  She also has 10 Grandchildren, Alphonso (Wendy) DiMino, Selena (Daniel) Haney, John (Joanna) DiMino and their mother Darlene DiMino, Michael Casero, Gerald (fiancée Kristin Brennen) Casero Jr., Catherine (Jonathan) Hoerner, Nicole Casero and their father Gerald Casero Sr., and Kristy, Sarah and Johnathan Hepfer. 8 Great Grandchildren Anthony and Christian DiMino, Alphonso (AJ) and Marianna DiMino, Isabelle and Daniel Haney, Gwendolyn Casero,  and Chase Hoerner, her sister-in-laws Josephine (late Mariano) Colosi, Mary (late Nick) Colosi and was predeceased by her siblings: Nancy Colosi, Grace (late Albert) Kevekordes and Nephew Robert Kevekordes.

She will be sadly missed by her guardian angels and caregivers Alicia Allen, Patricia Snyder, Jamie Hepfer and Linda Wyatt.

Catherine's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Mount Saint Mary's Hospital especially the 3 rd and 5 th floor, and Dr. Samuel Sirianni and his staff for their compassionate care.
