Obituary

Charles P. "Augie" Augustino, 62, of the Town of Niagara, NY died on Friday November 19, 2010 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Salvatore M. and Ida (Nichitta) Augustino.

Augie, as he was known, to his family and friends was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1967. On August 7, 1971 he married Linda V. (Bruno) Augustino at St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Charles owned and operated the former Alibi Lounge in Niagara Falls, NY from 1978 until 1990. He then worked as a car salesman for local dealerships and currently owned and operator of Augie's Sunrise Diner on Military Road in the Town of Niagara. Augie was an outstanding athlete throughout his life. He was member of his high school football and baseball teams, and was the captain and quarterback of the last undefeated football team at the original Niagara Falls High School, earning all WNY recognition in football and baseball. He later played basketball while attending Niagara County Community College. Augie also participated in local softball and fast pitch leagues, as well as in the Ontario Fast Pitch League where he earned MVP six times. He also played in various fast pitch tournaments throughout Canada and the U.S. earning MVP recognition more than twenty times. In 1995 he was inducted into the WNY Softball Hall of Fame and in 2006 Augie was inducted into the Niagara Falls Old Timers Sports Hall of Fame. In his leisure time he also enjoyed playing golf, but Augie's greatest pleasure came from working in his restaurant and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of thirty nine years, Augie is survived by two children, Jeffrey Augustino and Jill Augustino both of Niagara Falls, NY; four grandchildren, Salvatore, Jacob, Gabrielle and Alivia, two sisters, Kathleen (late Steve) Gioannini and Mary (Matthew) Bernat both of Niagara Falls, NY; two brothers-in-law, Joseph (Maura) Bruno of Lewiston, NY and James (Arlene) Bruno of Niagara Falls, NY; one aunt and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his grandson Jonathon and his brother Michael (Gloria of Niagara Falls, NY) Augustino.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Everyone is invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday November 22nd at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent DePaul Parish at St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Robert Hughson officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
