Charles Licata, 85 of Lewiston, NY passed away on Friday March 23, 2012 in Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo NY. Born in Grotte, Sicily, Italy, he was the son of the late Paul and Lucia Licata.
Charles was raised and educated in Italy. On October 23, 1962 he married Maria (Butera) Licata in Palermo, Sicily and together with their family immigrated to the United States in 1964 settling in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Licata recently predeceased him on February 27, 2012. Charles worked as a master tailor, a skill he began to learn at the age of nine. He retired from Riverside Men's Shop in Buffalo NY in 2004. Prior to that, he had worked at the former Martin's Ltd. in Buffalo and Vincent's Men's Fashion in Niagara Falls. Charles was a movie buff. He also enjoyed gardening, cooking and loved to bake. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. In 2005, Charles, along with his wife Maria, was awarded the "Cittadini Speciali" Award (Special Citizen's Award) by the Pine Avenue Business Association.
Mr. Licata is survived by his four children, Lucy (Dominick) Muto, Marie E. Licata, Paul Licata all of Lewiston, NY, Loretta (Samuel) Serra of Grand Island, NY, four grandchildren, Dominick C. Muto, Rose M. Muto, Samuel C. Serra and Christopher J. Serra as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by two sisters during World War II.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 – 6 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Monday March 26th at 9:15 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. Entombment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
