Charles M. "ChiChi" Mayflower, 86, of the Town of Niagara, passed away on December 4, 2019 at Elderwood at Crestwood in Wheatfield, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Bernard Mayflower and Mary (Leo) Mayflower Reid.
Charles grew up in Niagara Falls and attended local schools, graduating from Bishop Duffy High School. He served proudly in the US Army during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. On May 31, 1958, he married Rebecca M. "Becky" (Rosati) Mayflower at St. Joseph's Church. Charles held various jobs, including delivering beer, working at the former Hooker Chemical Company, as well as for STV Cable Company. He was the owner and operator of the Sandbar on Buffalo Avenue for 27 years. Charles was a member of the Cataract Lodge ISDA. In his younger years, Charles played Semi Professional Football in Niagara Falls, coached in the Cataract Youth Football League, and also loved to ski, hunt and fish. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, Charles is survived by his children, Bernard A. (Kathleen) Mayflower, and Linda A. Mayflower (Tim Smeal); his grandchildren, Bernard, Makenna and Rebecca Mayflower; his siblings, Bernard (late Ida) Mayflower, Patricia (Don) Paolini, Marcia (late Sam) Marino, and Charlotte (Pat) Quenzel, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother in law of Fabian and Francine Rosati, and the late Louise (Rocco) Fortunato.
Charles' family would like to thank Unit 2 at Elderwood for the compassion and care given to him during his time there.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304. Charles' Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 AM at St. Vincent De Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304. Please assemble at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors.
