Obituary
Chester L. Smith, Sr., 84 of Niagara Falls, NY died on Sunday June 19, 2011 at N. F. Memorial Medical Center. Born in Shamokin, PA he was the son of the late Harry Edwin and Mary Jane (Schlabig) Smith.
Chester was educated in Pennsylvania and during World War II he served in the U.S. Navy from August 22, 1944 until his honorable discharge on July 3, 1946. In 1960 he came to Niagara Falls, NY where he lived until the present time. Chester was employed at The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Niagara Falls, NY until retiring in 1991. Prior to that he worked at the former International Paper Company on Buffalo Avenue also in Niagara Falls. Chester was devoted to both his family and to his church, First Assembly of God, where he was a forty-year member.
Chester is survived by five children Chester L. (Sen) Smith Jr. of Woodbridge, VA; Charles W. "Bubbles" (Nancy) Smith of Shamokin, PA; Gary (Cathy) Smith, Cheryl (Timothy) Azzinaro both of Niagara Falls, NY and David (Tina) Smith of Shamokin, PA; thirteen grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister Charles (Nancy) Smith of Shamokin, PA; Nancy (late Joseph) Diak of Pt. St. Lucie, FL and Russell (Terri) Smith of New Jersey; his adopted son Louis Muraca and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one grandson Gary Smith, Jr.; four brothers and two sisters Les (Fern of Shamokin, PA) Nye, Paul (Barbara of Shamokin, PA) Nye, Seville (late William) Hoffman, Daniel (late Thelma) Smith, Jane (late Leon) Culp and Ronald (late Mary) Smith.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 9 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service followed by Military Honors on Thursday June 23rd at 10:00 AM at First Assembly of God Church, 9750 Niagara Falls Boulevard, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Daniel McLaughlin officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Assembly of God Church, 9750 Niagara Falls Boulevard, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
