Obituary

Civa (Mardirosian) Schurr, 96, passed away unexpectedly on January 7, 2019 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital. Born June 6, 1922, in Niagara Falls, NY to survivors of the Armenian Genocide, Sarkis and Arshaluce "Alice" (Sherenian) Mardirosian.

Civa attended 10 th Street Grade School, South Junior High School and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1940. She was employed with her best friend, Rose Battino, at the Carborundum Company for over 40 years until retiring in 1982. Civa married Arthur Schurr in September of 1949 in Wheatfield, NY. Arthur passed away on January of 2005.

Civa and Arthur belonged to several senior groups including the Holy Rosary Church and the John Duke Center. She was a great believer in prayer and longtime member of the St. Sarkis Armenian Church and St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

Civa is survived by her sister Helen (Oscar) Flinchum and her brother Leo (Martha) Mardirosian; her nieces and nephews, Deana Flinchum, Civa (Matt) Spameni, Stephen (Lisa) Flinchum, Randy Mardirosian and Joseph (Sue) Dorgan; her great-nieces and great-nephews, Nicholas and Lauren Flinchum, Matthew, Peter, Leah Spameni, and Joleane and Jaeger Dorgan. Civa was predeceased by her brother, Arshag "Hawk" Mardirosian and Vern "Varton" Mardirosian; nephews Peter and Michael Mardirosian, as well as her life long, best friend Rose Battino.

Civa's family would like to thank the dialysis treatment of Fresenius Health Care, who gave her wonderful care; the van drivers Lonnie, Tom and Paul of the Village of Youngstown, who she loved dearly and Dr. Inkee Min and his staff who took great care of her for so many years.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 11 th from 4 – 7 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where a prayer service will follow at 7 P.M. Civa's funeral services will be on Saturday at 11 A.M. at St. Sarkis Armenian Church, 300 9 th Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14303 with Fr. Simeon Odabashian officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to the American Diabetes Association and St. Sarkis Armenian Church.
