Concetta "Connie" Girardo of Niagara Falls, passed away after a brief illness on September 8, 2018 at the age of 83. Born in Bella di Nicastro, Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy on February 8, 1935 to the late Antonio Fato and Teresa (Cristiano) Fato.
Following her marriage on October 23, 1954 to Anthony Girardo, she immigrated to America with her husband, where she lived a happy life for 63 years. Concetta was a talented seamstress and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking for her family and was known for her famous cannoli's and homemade sauce. She liked playing bocce and bingo. Concetta enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her two granddaughters who were her pride and joy. Concetta, along with her family was a longtime member of the Power City Lodge. She also was an active member of the Cristoforo Columbo Society, and Niagara Falls Bocce League.
In addition to her husband of 63 years Anthony Girardo, she is survived by her two daughters, Palma A. Girardo and Maria T. (Peter M.) Micale. Two granddaughters, Amanda Micale and Angela Micale. She is also survived by her brother Giacinto (Giovanna Cappello) Fato and her sisters Giovannina (late Felice deSensi) Fato, Angelina (Antonio Cerra) Fato and Rosina (Vincenzo Pileggi) Fato all residing in Calabria, Italy. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind her dearest friend Giuseppina Spagnolo whom she loved like a sister. Concetta was predeceased by her brother Giovanni (late Concetta Pileggi) Fato, her sister Maria (late Giuseppe Matarazzo) Fato and her brother in law, Nick (late Maria Grande) Girardo.
Visitation will begin Tuesday from 3 – 8 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin Wednesday, September 12 th at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Road, Niagara Falls. The Power City Lodge will conduct a Memorial Service on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Buffalo Oishei Children's hospital, 818 Ellicott St. Buffalo, NY 14203.
