Cora Lee Cook was born in Greenville, Alabama to Rosie and Irving Drake. She was the second of their ten children. She was lovingly known as "CoCo" to her close friends and "Momma Cook" by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous friends and family members. She lived in Alabama until she was 17 years old. She married Clarence W. Cook on March 24, 1951. Shortly thereafter the two soon moved to Niagara Falls, New York.
After settling in New York, Cora gained employment at St. Mary's Hospital. She worked there for 9 years. She later gained employment at Memorial Medical Center where she worked for 27 years as a nurse's aide before retiring. "Momma Cook" enjoyed making annual trips in the family's mobile home back to her hometown of Greenville, Alabama. The family would spend time sitting on the porch of the family home reminiscing about the old days. She enjoyed bird watching, planting flowers, reading, baking pound cakes, talking on the telephone, and drinking coffee. One of her most favorite things to do before her health started to decline was to share regularly in spreading the Bible's message of paradise. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, she volunteered within her community each month.
Cora is survived by her son William A. (Jyll) Cook; two daughters: Gloria Zeigler & Renee (Mark) Cook-King; special adopted daughter Janet Byrd; grandchildren, Darian Zeigler, Willie Mills, William Cook Jr., Jason (Jaslyn) King, Brittany Cook, Alexis Cook; seven great-grandchildren; brother Calvin Lawson; three sisters: Rlee McClain, Mattie Mathews, & Irene (James) Love, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving relatives, and friends; especially her cousin who she lovingly called her brother, Willie George Jones, who referred to her as "Sister Girl." She will always be remembered for her quick wit and giving spirit.
