Obituary

Daniel "Dan" A. Dragonette, 76, of the Town of Niagara, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the V.A. Hospital in Buffalo, NY, while he was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Buffalo, NY he was the son of the late Daniel and Madeline (Carnevale) Dragonette.

Dan attended school in Buffalo, NY and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Newman K. Perry as a Captain's Cook from January 18, 1956 until his honorable discharge on December 17, 1959 and was on Naval reserve until January 17, 1962. On October 28, 1961 he married Julia N. (Ditto) Dragonette at St. Leo's Church in the Town of Niagara, NY. Dan was employed as a foreman at General Motors Foundry Division in Tonawanda, NY and retired in 1988.

He was a dedicated member and served as President, Vice President and secretary of the Town of Niagara Lions Club and President of the Wheatfield Lions Club. He tested and screened students at area elementary schools for eyeglasses. Dan often volunteered his time to the Five Senses Park for blind and handicapped children in Wheatfield, NY. Dan was also a passionate advocate for making area facilities handicap accessible and assisted with maintaining Camp Badger, a camp sponsored for handicapped individuals located in the Central, NY. He was truly instrumental with helping people in need throughout the community. Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and sharing his political viewpoints.

In addition to his wife of fifty two years, Dan is survived by three children Darlene Dragonette, Madeline (Raymond) Delucci, Sr. both of the Town of Niagara and Daniel (Holly) Dragonette, Jr. of Bloomsburg, PA; four grandchildren Martina (Matthew) Conlon, Nicholas (Aubrey) Dragonnete, Raymond Delucci, Jr. and Leena Delucci; one sister Mary Ann (Domenico) Testa of Clarence, NY; one brother James (Nancy) Dragonette, of Florida and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his inseparable brother, Joseph (Mary ann) Dragonette of the Town of Wheatfield and his good friends the late James Hescox and the late Dick Garrow both formerly of the Town of Niagara.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday September 15th at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent De Paul at St. Leo's Site, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY concluding with Military Honors. Interment at the convenience of the family will be in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
