Obituary

Dolores Rosita (Gonzalez) Russo went to heaven on May 31st, 2020 at the age of 92.  She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Caroline (Scappucci) Gonzalez and married for just over 64 years to her late husband Alfred J. Russo.

Dolores was a member of St. Joseph's Church, attended St. Joseph's school and was a 1946 graduate of Niagara Falls High School.  She with her husband Fred managed portrait studios in Rome, NY and New Castle, PA. Together they operated the House of Portraits Photography Studio in Niagara Falls, NY on Tronolone Place and Walnut Avenue making wedding and family memories last a lifetime with their photographs and took business portraits and commercial photography as well.  They donated their gift of photography to venues such as Niagara Falls Medical Center for all to enjoy.

Dolores was a talented artist (self-taught) and businesswoman and Fred was the talented man behind the camera. They both retired from the business in 1987. They were members of the Professional Photography Association and enjoyed getting together with the local photographers with whom they became like family.

She was also a St. Joseph's Cub Scout den mother and one of the first members of the CYO with Father Lombardi, a past member of the St. Joseph's Mother's Club and a long-time member of the Italian Sons and Daughters Cataract Lodge #240.  In 2002, Dolores and Fred received the Pine Avenue Business Citizens award for their contributions to the community for over a 40 Year period.

Dolores  was a loving mother to her son Victor (Mary Sweeney) Russo of Niagara Falls, NY and daughter Dolores (Alan J Austin, Jr.) Russo Austin of Little Elm, TX., predeceased by her brother Peter Gonzalez, sister-in-law Millie & husband Leonard Pudetti of Rochester, NY, and brother-in-law Sam & his wife Grace Russo of Webster, NY.

She is also survived by her dear cousins Loretta Abbo, Phyllis Marra and Marilyn Alaimo whom were like sisters to her and many cousins including Janet Bradigan (Joe) who were close to her heart. As well as many dear nieces and nephews.

The family would like to especially thank the wonderful staff at Niagara Rehabilitation & Nursing and Schoellkopf Center for all their love and care. You all are truly appreciated.

Our mom was a special lady and a wonderful mother who will be missed. We lost a piece of our hearts today but not our connection with her that we will always have.

Due to current circumstances, private funeral services will be held with interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery.  Donations in honor of her memory may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation by calling 1-800-708-7644 or online at www.michaeljfox.org .  Arrangements by M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL.  Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
