Dominic P. Strangio, 16, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on April 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved son of Frank and Sara (Virtuoso) Strangio and the cherished brother of Sofia and Frankie Strangio, whom he adored with all his heart.
Dominic attended St. Stephen’s School from Pre‑K through 8th grade and was a proud Marauder, currently a 10th‑grade student at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute. He was an avid baseball player who served as a catcher throughout Little League, local travel leagues, and most recently with the Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles travel organization.
Dom was a devoted LEGO enthusiast and passionate gamer. He cherished the time spent fishing with his Papa and Sunday lunches at his Nonna’s home. He also enjoyed planning family trips and spending meaningful time with the Tambroni family. Above all, Dominic treasured the time he spent with his family and friends, especially the bond he shared with his brother and sister.
Dom carried an unforgettable grace, with a heart full of kindness and a spirit that seemed wise well beyond his years. He was an old soul whose faith guided the way he lived. Even throughout his illness, he remained selfless and steadfast, never voicing a complaint. Dom’s resilience and positive outlook inspired everyone who knew him, leaving an everlasting imprint on the hearts of those he touched.
Dominic’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff and student communities of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, St. Stephen’s School, and the Niagara Falls City School District for their unwavering kindness, love, and support. A special thank you is also extended to Roswell Park Pediatric Oncology Clinic, Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, and Hospice Buffalo for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Dominic.
In addition to Dominic’s parents, Frank and Sara, and his siblings Sofia and Frankie, he is survived by his Nonna, Marita (late Pasquale) Strangio; his Papa, John (late Cahterine) Virtuoso; his aunts and uncles, Maria (Nathan) Gavacs and Jonathan (Marissa) Virtuoso; his cousins, Joseph Gavacs, Daniel Gavacs, Rosie Gavacs, Maxwell Virtuoso and Cole Virtuoso, as well as his loving extended family of great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and countless friends.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 26 from 2 – 6 PM at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304. Dominic’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 27 at 10:00 AM in St. Stephen’s Church, 2100 Baseline Road, Grand Island, NY 14072.
