Donald F. LaVerdi, 87, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away Saturday March 3, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Nunzio and Jennie (Faso) LaVerdi.
Born and educated in Mt. Morris, NY, Donald came to the Niagara Falls area with his family in 1942. During World War II he served in the United States Navy as a Seaman Second Class from August 14, 1943 until his honorable discharge on March 11, 1946. On January 11, 1947 he married Shirley (Moy) LaVerdi in Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Donald worked for 30 years as a boiler operator at Hooker Chemical in Niagara Falls, NY. He enjoyed landscaping projects and took great pride in his gardens and their appearance. Donald also enjoyed playing his harmonica, dancing, shooting pool, and singing harmony with his brothers. Most importantly, he will be remembered for his devotion, care, and time spent with his family.
In addition to his wife of sixty-five years, he is survived by six children Donald S. (Nancy) LaVerdi of Niagara Falls, NY, Robert J. (Carol) LaVerdi of San Jose, CA, Tina (Michael) Piccirillo of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Cynthia (Dave) Felice of Niagara Falls, NY , Nunzio LaVerdi of Lewiston, NY, and George (Lynn) LaVerdi of North Tonawanda, NY. He was predeceased by two daughter-in-laws Patricia LaVerdi and Angela LaVerdi. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, a sister Jane (late Frank) Gariano of Niagara Falls, NY, two brothers Russell (Penny) LoVerdi of Lewiston, Anthony LoVerdi of Ohio; his aunt Josie (Victor) Rippo; his uncle Russell Faso, and many nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by four brothers Joseph LoVerdi, Sam (late Margaret) LoVerdi, Nunzio (late Gloria) LoVerdi, Dominic (late Ruth) LoVerde, and two sisters Antoinette (late Peter) Barstys, and Carrie (late Al) Jones.
Visitation will be Monday 4 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin Tuesday March 6th at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Rd, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment with military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls.
