Obituary
Donald Miesko, 78, of the Town of Niagara, died on Friday March 6, 2009 at Niagara Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Niagara Falls, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Andrew and Martha (Yingling) Miesko.
Donald was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area. He attended local schools, graduated from the former LaSalle High School in 1949 and later attended the State University of New York at Brockport where he earned an Associate's Degree. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Air Force from July 12, 1951 until his honorable discharge on July 12, 1955 and was the recipient of a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. On December 27, 1952 he married Gabrielle M. "Gail" (Goupil) Miesko at Prince of Peace Church in Niagara Falls. Mrs. Miesko predeceased him on December 19, 2008. Don was employed at Carborundum Abrasives and retired in 1993 after thirty eight years of service. He was a longtime member of Prince of Peace Church and for the last ten years he volunteered his services for the Guildcare of Niagara Falls/ Jewish Guild for the Blind both in Niagara Falls. In his leisure time, Donald enjoyed photography and collecting model railroads and airplanes but his greatest joy came from being with his wife Gail and spending time with his family.
Mr. Miesko is survived by two daughters Terre (Mark) Olenick of Niagara Falls, NY and Cynthia Cruise of Dallas, TX; eight grandchildren Joe, Jason, Jon, Elijah, Allison, Sam, Michael and Faith, one niece and two nephews.
Friends may call on Monday day from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Tuesday March 10th at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Vincent De Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church with Military Honors 1055 North Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. If desired memorial donations may be made to Guildcare of Niagara Falls Jewish Guild for the Blind, 4520 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14305.
